Olympics Opening Ceremony - The Games Have Always Been a Little Gay

With the Olympics Opening Ceremony taking place in Sochi, Russia tomorrow at 12:14 pm ET, everyone is on the edge of their seat to see how this year's winter Olympics actually pans out. With the un-winter-like weather, the lack of accommodations, Putin's anti-gay laws, it really seems like Sochi was the wrong place to pick. Oh and speaking of Putin's anti-LGBT Propaganda law, the Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion has come up with this advert for the curious sport of luge.

All I have to say is, Fuck Yeah Canada! I love my wonderful country!
The games have always been a little gay. Let's fight to keep them that way. Show your support for the equality of all athletes by changing your Facebook profile picture with us at http://bit.ly/keepthegamesgay. Follow on Twitter: @CIDI_ICDI  @rethinkcanada

Appreciating the Existence of Bob Marley

I was discussing music and passionate musicians last night with a ridiculously good-looking man, and how I feel it's very much lacking from today's artists. Far too many are manufactured, or trained and molded and I find they lack passion behind their vocals, instrumentals, lyrics, the list goes on, that raw talent and raw passion that we used to hear and that I am in incredible need of. That while there are many performers who come out today that I enjoy, love even, I can not see many (or any!?) of them being considered classics, or legends, gaining fans 30 years after their last album or deaths. At the top of my list of artists that were mentioned during this 3am conversation of who have and will continue to accomplish this feat, was Bob Marley. Completely unaware that we were discussing a man on the anniversary of his birth, and merely appreciating all that he has done for music in Jamaica, the world, all that he has meant to us personally. Clearly we had good timing.

The above is just one of the MANY incredible quotes from a man who spoke and performed from the heart, and we were lucky he's left many pieces of himself behind for our appreciation and inspiration. Happy Birthday Nesta Robert Marley, Thank you.

Ironically, today is also the birthday of Axl Rose, another person mentioned in that list. Clearly, today is a good day to be born.

Juno Nominations - Shout out Rich Kidd!

It's been a big week for Toronto's own Rich Kidd, starting with what I think we'll be a historic moment in Canadian Hip Hop on Friday, January 31st with a sold-out show promoting the release of Natural Born Strangers at the Mod Club alongside Tona and Adam Bomb, in collab with a pop up shop from clothing line, The Legends League. The night was an incredible rush, and a great moment for the Toronto music scene when an independent show kicks the ass of an American entertainer that went down the same night.

And now our favourite rising-star is getting more of the recognition he deserves with yet another Juno nom, for Rap Recording of the Year with In My Opinion. Rich will face up against Classified, Drake, Shad and his The Closers partner SonReal in Winnipeg Sunday, March 30th. Keep it going T.O.

Bruno Mars vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers: Super Bowl XLVIII

I really wish I bet money on yesterday's game, granted I know very little about Football, but I was adamant that the Seattle Seahawks were going to win, as I heard (from a guest on the Colbert Report), 3 out of 4 times that the best offensive team faced the best defensive, the best defensive team took it. So, if I were more of a gambler I could have been a little bit richer today. Lesson learned, always gamble and take risks.

For those of you who skipped the half time show due to the incredibly one-sided game, you missed a pretty entertaining performance. Bruno Mars provided an awesome old-school vibe with his James Brown-inspired dance moves, and a mash-up of his latest hits, "Locked out of Heaven," "Treasure," along with 2 tracks from his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans, "Runaway Baby," and "Just the Way You Are" which American soldiers dedicated to family back home.

My only complain is how the eff did legendary band Red Hot Chili Peppers only perform one song?!?! They've won seven Grammy awards, SEVEN! And one of the best selling bands of all time.... One song?!?! Really?! Really?! Besides that irritant it was a good show. If you missed it, watch all 14 minutes below.
