Archie's Girls collection at M.A.C.

At a M.A.C. counter near you is their latest collection Archie's Girls. Being one half of  Betty and Veronica I am really excited about these new products.

There are two very distinct lines, one for the Betty in all of us and another one for all the Veronica's. The lines range from gorgeous eye shadow pallets with names like Caramel Sundae or Spoiled Rich, (I'll let you guess which one is Betty's and which one is Veronica's), to luscious lipsticks named Girl Next Door, Daddy's Little Girl and even Boyfriend Stealer.

The collection was launched Nation Wide on February 7, 2013. Once my raven haired ladylove Veronica makes her way back from St Lucia (gorgeous tan and all), we best be making our way to the nearest M.A.C counter and I'll be coming home with at least a lipstick, guaranteed!

Alabama Shakes on Family Day

It's Music Monday Folks and Alabama Shakes are playing in my head non stop.  After watching last weekends Grammy's this roots rock band out of Athens, Alabama got my attention and their performance on SNL this past Saturday is keeping me intrigued.

Brittany Howard, Zac Cockrell, Heath Fogg and Steve Johnson released their first album Boys & Girls this past April, which includes the hit "Hold On". They were also nominated for 3 Grammy's including Best New Artist.

Listening to the album has been a great way to spend this Family Day. Brittany Howard has an amazing set of vocals and the singer inside of me wishes I had 1/3 of her talent.  Maybe I see some vocal lessons in my future. Perhaps a new goal for 2013??

55th Grammy's: The Carrie Diaries

It's rare that I would dedicate an entire post to one person, but as if she was hosting Carrie Underwood deserves the attention.

When I first saw Carrie Underwood's custom Theia Couture ballgown, I was shocked that her legs weren't visible, being the fan of formal shorts that she is, and disappointed at how boring her bridal wear was.... And then she performed;

Carrie's blank canvas gown turned into a projection screen, as she lit up the stage and ensured that all eyes would be on her. She started the performance much like the dawn of the earth, replicating the big bang;

My favourite screen of them all was this blue-ombre on white pattern that I originally believed to be the blooms of the beginning of time, but now that I focus on it, it's much more abstract, but no less beautiful.

My least favourite is what the above blue smoke turned into what resembles my family home's old wallpaper border.

And then everything went black and red butterflies covered the world... although with the colour choices, they're making me think of locusts and this is actually C.Wood warning us all of our impending doom.

Perhaps what we'd see on our ascent to heaven, or perhaps this entire performance has merely been Carrie's attempt at finding new tile patterns for her home?

Looks like she settled on a balanced mix of love and death.

Which explains her black Roberto Cavalli award acceptance gown, she's either mourning our passing or the "death" of her tiles former.

The 55th Grammy's Fashion Favourites

I have a few favourite Red Carpet moments of the year, and the Grammy's are usually one of them, only this year CBS was trying to take them off my list by implementing a sideboob/underboob/sheer ban! Fortunately there were a few artists who pushed the envelope of the modesty code, and naturally those few fall under my favourites list.

Starting the often skin-baring Rihanna, who looked like a supermodel in a red custom Azzedine Alaia gown with sheer paneled bodice which often threatened to expose Rihanna's "RiRi's" (I mean her nipples). Fortunately, Rihanna made sure that was fast forgotten by snuggling up with Chris Brown inside the Staples Center.

I'm well aware that Katy Perry has naturally huge boobs, but in this retro-inspired mint green, ample cleavage baring Gucci dress, her breasts appear to have been enhanced. I'm sure they're not, since that would be a pointless trip under the knife, regardless I love the contrast of her black hair and the mint, and the over-the-top yet somehow just-right collar embellishment, it really brings out her.. boobs. Let's face it, it's all about her boobs.

Modesty be damned! Not only did Kelly Rowland laugh in the face of the sideboob police, but she also threatened to show off her future child's destiny (see what I did there? Too much? I feel that was a little gross, but that's because I'm a very visual person), in a black Georges Chakra dress. Normally I wouldn't be a fan of a dress with a chevron parked right at the woman's lady-ness, but in this instant I find it quite fitting.

It wasn't until I saw this photo that I was even aware of what Taylor Swift had walked the Red Carpet in, but I love her J. Mendel gown. I find it expresses both who T. Swift once was and who she has now become; romantic, airy Grecian goddess, meets warrior princess.

I am rarely a fan of Alicia Keys fashion choices and unfortunately this photo isn't doing the singer any justice but she stood out in her strappy, black Azzedine Alaia dress on the Red Carpet, looking daring yet still following the modesty guidelines.

Justin Bieber on Saturday Night Live

Biebs is pulling a double duty this week on SNL, hosting and preforming! Poor Thing had a case of food poisoning during rehearsals and  tweeted about being nervous:

"Think i had food poisoning yesterday. rested up... am i nervous? yep. #outofmyelement but im excited."

My bet is that one set will be acoustic with the recent release of "Believe Acoustic". Bieber achieved his fifth Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with this new album.

Even thou The Lonely Island had a recent skit with Kendrick Lamar, I've got my fingers crossed for one with Biebs!

Valentines Day is Looming

Being that time of year and going through the love motions, I've found myself listening to Ed Sheeran's "Kiss Me" on repeat.

I've not given Sheeran who was last years British Male Solo Artist much of a chance but if the rest of his tracks are like this, I'll be sure to give them a shot.

You can catch this years Brit Awards on Much Music on February 20, 2013.

Drake – Started From The Bottom

It was originally reported that Drake would be releasing a new track on Grammy night, after he was spotted filming a Director X-directed video, but it appears our TO native couldn't wait to share the first single off his forthcoming album with his fans and followers. He took to his site explaining the motive behind recording the track, with the following:
My good friends,It has truly been too long. I assume you’re all keeping well and making the most of this year that has been given to us. Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you. This is the first single off of my upcoming album. I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I’m excited for this song to find a place in your life as well. I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me. Judging by this post, the tour that we’ve been planning, the conversations about new songs and album artwork… I think it’s safe to say we’re back together again. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Drake also made the Mike Zombie-produced track available for Download

Reducing Carbon Footprints w Fashion

While reading the current issue of MacLean's I came across a really cool new line  of accessories from Wind Bag Company located out of Lunenburg Nova Scotia.

With their tag line "From Blew to Green", I can't help but already have fallen in love with these mother earth friendly bags.

The amazing green idea came about in 2006, when a storm tore off a large plastic tent that was covering Pauline Dickison's boat and from that destroyed tent, she and a few friends sewed bags together to give as Christmas gifts.

Wanting to continue to make these great gifts and quickly running out of that tent material, Pauline decided to start to use sails. The old sails are procured from sailors and repair shops and in return these sailors receive one of the following, messenger bags, duffel bags, shave kits, wallets or even a yoga-mat bag from that sail.

From this point she has never looked back. So far Pauline estimates that she has saved more than 225,000 kg of sail cloth from landfills. Which in it self is awesome.

I'll be sure to check out Pauline's site , since I recently missed my chance to get my hands on one of these creations when Pauline made a visit to this years Toronto's One of a Kind show. Hopefully  I'll be sporting one of her bags this spring.

Beyoncé & Destiny’s Child Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show (video)

Beyoncé hushed her critics after the Inauguration lip-synching controversy, and performed the hell out of Super Bowl XLVII Half-Time Show. Granted there were moments I felt she could have been dancing more for the lack of actual singing, and thought her face looked oddly thin, but I still enjoyed the performance, especially the addition of her Destiny's Children.

And then there was the wardrobe! I loved Bey's Rubin Singer dress, and was equally obsessed with Kelly Rowland's Pucci bodysuit. Love them, want them, need to own them!

Yea, we know Bey, you're winning at every aspect of life.

Golden Globe Favourites: Black

My list of favourites continues, but there were such an impressive quantity that I needed to separate them into categories. Normally black gowns are my least favourite, I often find them incredibly boring (and yet I wear a lot of black), but some of the dresses found within this list were actually my favourites of the entire evening.

Starting with Ms. Heather Elle's "Twin" (they share the same birthday and dye job, and yet she insists they are twins. If that were the case, I'd be twins with both CougarTown and Dawson Creek alum Busy Phillips and Lala Vasquez-Anthony! You can see the similarities, right?), Kate Hudson. I am obsessed with her Alexander McQueen dress! She's got the apparent sternum-exposing trend of the evening, and then there's that beautiful metallic collared neckline! She's smoldering!

I'm sure Helen Mirren wasn't actually attempting to compete with a 33 year old woman, and yet here she is holding more than her own against all the actresses half her age, in a Badgley Mischka. She is literally laughing in the face of aging, all the while proving that laughter is indeed the secret to staying forever young!

Another actress who never fails to smolder with those curves, is the volumptiously petite, Salma Hayek in a simple black sequined Gucci Premiere gown with bow accent.

I don't know what it is about Paz Vega's dress that I like so much, but there it is... She just encompasses so much drama in something so basic.

Julianne Moore looked chic in a white panel-accented black column dress by Tom Ford with bold shoulders. I feel like she could have accessorized this a lot more, at least I would have been rocking a giant bib necklace, but the minimalist look works for her.

How can you not love Helena Bonham Carter? Besides her awesome performance, in well, everything, she did a superb job in Les Mis, and she's carrying a pair of lips on the red carpet!
