We Day 2012

Today I am going to be apart of something Amazing, We Day!  I was able to volunteer for this event through the Royal Bank, one of their sponsors.,

This event celebrates the Power of Young People to Create Change.

We Day is an event that starts off a year long commitment to taking action both locally and globally. It brings together the greatest social justice leaders and entertainment currently!!!  This year Al Gore will be speaking and I couldn't be more excited! One of my political crushes for sure!

Two of the main organizations behind We Day are Me to We and Free the Children.

Me to We is an organization created by two brothers Craig and Marc Kielburger.  Me to We is a social enterprise that empowers people to make a socially responsible choice in their everyday lives.

Free the Children is an international charity that helps young people to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change. There mission is:

Free Children from poverty and exploitation and free young people from the notion that they are powerless to affect positive change in the world.

Some of the musical talent this year are Jennifer Hudson, Hedley and Nelly Furtado.

I can't wait to be a part of this great day and event.  I'm looking forward to making a change in at least one of the 20, 000 youth that will be in attendance today!

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: National Ballet

One of my favourite stories of all time is Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and the National Ballet of Canada is bringing the story to stage once again! I missed the performance in 2011 (during my birthday no less), and I vowed I would NOT miss it again once they finally brought it back.

Tickets for the Christopher Wheeldon-choreographed 3 Act ballet went on sale yesterday at 11 am and they have already broken sales records! Over 2,500 tickets were sold, with accumulated $250,000 in revenue, if that gives you an idea of how fast you need to move to get your tickets! The show runs from November 10th until the 25th.

If you're not in Toronto but would love to witness this stunning piece The National Ballet is taking Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland on tour to the Music Center in Los Angeles, California October 19—21 and to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC January 18—27. My inner ballerina is screaming with glee!

KiD CuDi - Creepers (audio)

I only just got the album today, but I've not been able to stop listening to this track on YouTube.

If I had one wish it'd be to have more wishes, duh.

Red Soles for everyone, nope just Christian Louboutin

So maybe Fairy Godmothers do exist, perhaps at least for Christian Louboutin. Recently in New York city courts, Celebrity Shoe maker won the case allowing him to trademark his trademark red sole.  Previously Yves Saint Laurent had won against  M Louboutin.

Other manufactures are able to still have a red sole on the shoe, so long as the entire shoe is that colour.

If my Fairy Godmother existed, she would have a pair of Strass Daffodil Glitter Pumps waiting at my bedside for me in the morning.  I'm just saying.

It's Toronto's turn to get a little taste of the Summer Olympics

Most of us didn't get to hang out with the Olympians this summer in London, but you'll all get a chance to check them out this Friday September 21 in all their Hudson Bay Swag!

The parade begins at 11:30 am at Bay Street and Albert Street here in Toronto!  The Olympians will be riding in Chevrolet convertibles, as well as walking on foot, to meet and greet all the fans.

London cabs, and an old-school double-decker bus will also be in the parade giving you a glimpse of Ole London Town. The party will continue at Maple Leaf Square with a DJ, Canadian band Neverest and on-stage interviews with the athletes.

k-os - The Dog is Mine (single)

It looks like k-os is back after a 3 years hiatus, the Toronto poet is releasing his 5th studio album and a double LP at that, Black on Blonde November 27, 2012. He's released his second single on Friday, shout outs to 1LOVETO. This is dope but I can't wait to hear the Travie McCoy assisted "Can't Leave You Alone."

Listen to "The Dog is Mine" below,

Who you calling four eyes, these are Google Glasses Yo!

One of the greatest accessories to come down the runway this New York Fashion week was the Google Glasses.

Diane von Furstenberg had her models don a pair of the specs for her show.  While she herself and Google co-founder Sergey Brin also wore a pair to watch.

A pair will currently go for $1500.00, but give it time, the price will come down just like an HD TV.

Good Music makes Good Times, Songza App for your iPhone or iPad

So I love to share and I was told about the most amazing free music app for your iPhone or iPad today.  Songza, is a great app made up of the coolest play lists, I have ever come across.

The App is easy to maneuver through and the streaming is nearly flawless.  You will be able to find a play list for anytime of day, no matter what you are up to. Whether it be having a shower, working out at the gym, sitting at your desk working hard or just chillin at home.

After being told about this App this morning, I immediately downloaded it and I haven't stopped using it since.  Seriously my mind is blown. Oh I forgot to mention that my colleagues 8 year old daughter is the one that came across this awesomeness, even more amazing right?!

Live in the City: Kendrick Lamar

There's no denying after spending his twenty-third birthday here that Kendrick Lamar has love for Toronto! The Compton lyricist was here a mere month ago with Wiz Khalifa and he's coming back next week (Wednesday Sept. 19th) as part of the BET Music Matters Tour alongside Ab-Soul & Jay Rock at the Sound Academy.

During the tours stop in Charlotte, NC. Kendrick Lamar brought his Best Lyricist of the Year competitor and album collaborator, J. Cole on stage to perform a few tracks. Fans were also given a new Grown Simba freestyle, I'd be lying if I was not praying to the Hip Hop Gods for history to repeat itself!

If you've missed your chance to catch the "King of the West Coast" (crowned by Snoop himself) or you already know how hype the show's going to be, you can grab your tickets here.

good kid, m.A.A.d city, has been pushed back until October 22nd, so we need to wait just a little longer for this highly-anticipated debut studio album, in the meantime I'll keep Section.80 and all K.Dots collabs and singles on heavy rotation.

"She Ain't You" or at least not Rihanna

Team Breezy can't be too impressed right now, Chris Brown is in the news again and this time it's a new tattoo. He revealed a new piece of "art" on his neck at an event in Vegas earlier this month.

It's being said that it resembles a photo of a battered women, which is a little too close to home with the whole Rihanna ordeal. But his Reps have advised it's a M.A.C. cosmetic design of a woman inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead.

I think this is all in poor taste, but honestly if the two them can move on, maybe we all need to do the same.

TIFF Sightings - Selena Gomez/Spring Breakers

The Toronto International Film Festival this week has got our already bustling city, overrun with celebrities, press, film fans and your everyday folk trying to catch a glimpse of someone "important."

Selena Gomez is no stranger to our fair city, besides dating our golden boy Justin Bieber, she's also hosted our very own MMVAs, and now she's taking over our streets promoting her upcoming Harmony Korine-directed flick, Spring Breakers.

Looking cool and chic in leather tights and a white cropped leather jacket,

Then testing the powers of gravity with this "wardrobe malfunction" waiting to happen,

And then looking like some weird yet beautiful sea urchin... No Selena is not the only cast member in this film,

Vanessa Hudgens is also in it...

with Selena Gomez, go ahead, try and tell them apart, I dare you! Remember when Vanessa was in that teen musical and dating Zack Efron and people couldn't get enough of her and she was invited to the most elite of parties? All I can suggest to the girl to get out of Selena's shadow is to marry one of the Wanted or One Direction guys.

I kid, I kid, Pretty Little Liars starlet Ashley Benson, and Harmony's wife and baby momma Rachel Korine, along with the hottest weirdo we know James Franco also star in this film about four girls who rob a restaurant to fund their spring break vacation to Florida. At first I thought this would be a cheesy teen movie, until I discovered that it was the creator of cult-classic Kids who penned and directed it; it has to be good! On a fashion note: I love Ashley Benson's gown! It is sublime! Especially in comparison to her previous dowdy press event choice...

What would Ali say?!

MTV Video Music Awards

I didn't actually watch any of the MTV VMA's Red Carpet pre or after shows, so I am certain there are a few gems that I'm missing, but what I've found so far has been mostly disappointing. Since when did these awards become so boring?!? It's music people! Liven up! Risk taking... look it up!

Things are pretty glib when even Nicky Minaj fails to shock and appal. I didn't even care to exert an eye roll. Yeah, you're wearing a lace body suit, sure it looks like it was designed by Spider Man, which I didn't know he had started a new line, but it's been done before. We appreciate that you took the time to do your hair, and still tried to style your ensemble by throwing a cops brim on your head....it just all lacks inspiration. Like you chose pieces from previous Hallowe'en costumes and threw them on, hoping no one would notice you forgot the awards were today.

Speaking of Hallowe'en, which I could not be more excited is round the corner, so much so I've already started thinking about what I'm going to dress up as this year, but that doesn't mean I walk around town testing costumes out. Elvira? Bride of Frankenstein? Susan Powter? Who can choose just one, right Miley?!

It's pretty disheartening when it's the man you're presenting with that is wearing the more notable ensemble of the two of you, especially when you're actually a bit of a fashion icon. Granted, I'm not saying I like his look, but I have to keep scrolling back to the photo to even remember what it is Emma Watson put on. And it's cute, kind of; looks good on you, I guess. I'm sorry I keep focusing on the race track that appears to be travelling over that young man's groin. It's clear what he wanted the viewers to focus on...

Another fashionista that completely disappointed me, Zoe Saldana was supposed to be my fashion saving grace! It looks like a failed Project Runway challenge...Auf Wiedersehen.

Boring. Unflattering. Not the usual words that one would use to describe Rihanna, and yet here we are. The hair looks cute on her face, but I don't think i really like that either...

At least British Rihanna-look-a-like, aka Rita Ora wore feathered shoulder armour with her dress! Demi Lavato though, I do not even want to address, some people should not be blonde, those are usually the same people who shouldn't wear red lipstick with their blonde do... It's distracting and makes you look like another person.

Like Rebecca De Mournay here, bears a very close resemblance to young 20-something singer Taylor Swift.

Even Katy Perry bores me with her fashion choice! This is the same woman who has worn cookie-printed latex, a whip-cream canister bra and a Lite-Brite evening gown to events and she walks an MTV red carpet in this rather unflattering dress? Didn't you just split from Russel Brand 9 months ago? Shouldn't you still be sporting your "revenge" clothes? Where's the sex appeal? The cleavage? What about the cleavage Katy!?

You know it's a backwards, Wonderland-type world we're in, when Ke$ha is the only person receiving praise! The hair looks fierce and I have all kinds of respect for those quads!

Roll out the Red Carpert TIFF is here!!!!!

Today marks the start of the 36th annual Toronto International Film Festival.

Tonight the opening film is Looper, starring Joesph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.
The film takes place in 2072 and when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, to get offed by the Loppers. Loopers are foot soldiers, paid on the terms that all targets must never escape. Mob hitman (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is assigned to kill his own future self (Bruce Willis) in this futuristic  thriller.

Looper will be premiering at Visa Screening Room (Elgin) at 6:30pm and Roy Thompson Hall at 8:00pm tonight.

Try and show up early, hopefully you can catch a glimpse of the oh so handsome JGL and the hunky Bruce Willis.

Disney gets a Makeover for Christmas at Barney's New York

There is just a little controversy going on over the new look our favourite Disney characters are getting for the Christmas window display this year at Barney's New York.

They have decided to take the gang and give them a Haute Couture look and the buzz is around the fact that the group perhaps aren't setting a great example with their new svelte physics.

"The short film centers around Minnie Mouse’s fantasy to be at the Paris shows. There she comes across key Disney characters — Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Cruella de Vil, Princess Tiana and Snow White — all decked out in unique designer clothes as they make their way down the runway.
For the occasion, Mickey is dressed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, Minnie by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Goofy by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain, Daisy by Dolce & Gabbana, Cruella by Rick Owens, Princess Tiana by Proenza Schouler and Snow White by Peter Copping for Nina Ricci."
I honestly don't think that this high fashion look is going to tarnish young children's minds about the Disney characters, they will still be able to catch their favourite friends on Disney Junior same as always.

Casey Veggies - Summer, I Suppose

Considering this past weekend was a much needed long weekend, I took a bit of a mental break and may have overlooked a few things that shouldn't be missed. Like this new track from Casey Veggies produced by Toronto's own Rich Kidd.

Toronto's 28th Annual Vegetarian Food Festival

This weekend is the 28th Annual Vegetarian Food Festival at Harbourfront Center.  Starts at 4pm on Friday September 7th and goes till Sunday September 9th.

There is over 100 Vendors, Exhibitors,  Free Talks and Cooking Demonstrations.

This year my second Vegan Goddess (my first Vegan Goddess is Candice The Edgy Veg ) the PPK's Isa Chandra Moskowitz will be on hand.  I heard that she is having a cupcake bake off on Sunday.  Do you have what it takes to impress one of the best.

This festival isn't only for vegetarians, I am sure anyone young or old can find something that they will either enjoy or love here.
