Hamiltons Road to Hope Race

It's Fitness Friday and I've finally decided on my next race. On Sunday November 4th, I'll be running the half marathon in Hamiltons Marathon Road to Hope.

The proceeds from this race go to support two charities in Hamilton, City Kidz and The Joy and Hope of Haiti.

You can still sign up for the Half Marathon.  It's $75.00 up until September 30 and after October 1, it's $85.00 with no guarantee of a shirt.

This race is ranked #1 Boston Qualifier in Canada, for those marathon runners, it's a great course with lots of down hill.  I need to work myself back in to marathon form, but I think starting with a half marathon might do the trick.

It's been almost two years since I have trained for a race but I think the Road to Hope race is a great way to start!

Credit Cardio: TSOQ

Two weeks ago I finally walked into a store I had basically been stalking since it's Grand Opening in May, and my obsession was validated the moment I walked in. Picture two smoking hot chicks, both with their own unique sense of style, who aren't afraid to take fashion risks, be sexy and have fun with fashion all at the same time, and you get both the beauty and brains behind The Store on Queen (TSOQ). The store is chic but not stuffy, campy but not kitschy, sexy yet not at all raunchy, much like the dynamic "Hubby" and "Wife" duo behind its conception, fashion designer, Angela Phung and fashion buyer, Valentina. It wasn't that long ago the ladies entered into their fashion marriage upon which TSOQ was born, and we T-dot ladies could not be more grateful!

Tonight the TSOQ ladies are offering the fashionable women of Toronto a chance to check out their fall collections first at their "Peep" Trunk Show. Visit their Facebook page to see what the girls and the store has to offer, and visit the store at 719 Queen Street West between Bathurst and Tecumseh tonight to get your hands on something fabulous! Don't forget to RSVP!

Chicks with Hits

Came across this awesome website Chicks with Hits today. It's a super cool mixtape website of female artists songs from the 80's and 90's.

Two dope DJ's from the New York Area, Winslow and Johnny Cocco put together these great tunes. This is the ladies third edition and all the mixtapes come in at a total of just over 3 hours.

Some amazing woman make up these tapes such as Natalie Merchant, Fiona Apple, Tina Turner, Edie Brickell, Madonna and the list goes on and on.

The long weekend is ahead of us and I think I might be cranking these songs while having beers with the girls.

It's Official Superman and Wonder Woman hook up!

The other night I was having a discussion about whether I was more of a Lady or a Woman, came to the conclusion, that in fact I am a Woman (feeling it was a stronger more powerful portrayal of myself), and at the time we decided similar to Catwoman. Pretty awesome woman to be compared to.  But the following day, I realized No, I am more like Wonder Woman, and my decision may purely be on her outfit alone.

And now I found out that Wonder Woman has hooked up with Superman in the next Justice League #12 comic.  This relationship has been a long time coming and it is suppose to last the duration of the next year in the DC Comics.

"There are a lot of interesting places we can go with Superman and Wonder Woman. Really tackling that head on and forming that relationship and seeing it play out is something people haven't thought about, but we're in an atmosphere now where we can try that." Geoff Johns

So now that I have decided that I am in fact more like Wonder Woman, maybe I'll be able to hook up with my Superman too!  Justice League #12 is on News Stands today.

Murs & Fashawn - Slash Gordan (video)

Murs and Fashawn release the visuals to their track "Slash Gordan," which they performed live at Rock the Bells last weekend off their upcoming collab-album This Generation out next month.
Cali emcees Murs and Fashawn present the Todd Angkasuwan-directed video for "Slash Gordan", the new single from their forthcoming collaboration album This Generation, dropping September 25 on Duck Down. Murs recently dropped visuals for "Animal Style" (watch here), from his recent album Love & Rockets Vol. 1: The Transformation, produced largely by Ski Beatz, the producer behind classic records for Jay-Z, Mos Def and more. Murs' most recent release is Yumiko: Curse Of The Merch Girl, his album and graphic novel collaboration with Josh Blaylock. He recently curated Through The Mic, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's first-ever hip-hop concert series, and this year's installment of his annual Paid Dues festival featured Wu-Tang Clan, Odd Future, Kendrick Lamar and many more.
Unfortunately those of us in Canada can not view the video on MTV, where it was suppose to premiere, but thank God for bootleggers! Take that MTV US! Elitist, segregating jerks!

The Arkells at The EX

Tomorrow night the Juno award winning Arkells , one of the best things to come out of  Hamilton, Ontario, (other than myself and AleashiaG) are performing at the Toronto Star Bandshell in Bandshell Park.  And get this, it's a free concert!!!

I've seen these gentlemen three times in the past couple years and they never disappoint.  And Max Kerman may not know this but after tomorrow nights concert we will be going steady.

The EX is only $5 bucks after 5pm.  So why not shell out the cash, check out the foodcourt, shopping buildings and catch a free concert.  The Arkells are well worth more than $5 bucks. Show time 7:30pm.

The Airplane Boys x Osheaga (video)

Directed by Warren Credo

Toronto's eclectic duo, The Airplane Boys decided to document and share with fans their experience at the Osheaga Festival in MTL this year.

TIFF's Broken Heart Syndrome

Since TIFF is approaching, I thought I would use my Toronto Tuesday to talk about a film that I think I may just check out during the event.

This Canadian short film is about a guy named  Russ (Jim Annan) who gets dumped while having sex with his girlfriend (Joanna Douglas), and shortly there after becomes diagnosed with a rare disease known as BHS (Broken Heart Syndrome).

While desperately trying to find a cure, Russ finds it difficult to convince anyone that anything is actually wrong.

I myself had to look into this, as I too was skeptical but BHS does in fact exist.

"Stress cardiomyopathy, also referred to as the “broken heart syndrome,” is a condition in which intense emotional or physical stress can cause rapid and severe heart muscle weakness. This condition can occur following a variety of emotional stressors such as grief (e.g. death of a loved one), fear, extreme anger, and surprise.  "

The film is playing at the TIFF Lightbox on September 10 at 6:45pm and September 11 at 12:15pm.

If you do end up going to see it, save me a seat, will ya?

Gym Class Heroes - Martyrial Girl$ (video)

Its been seven years since Gym Class Heroes released one of my favourite albums of their decade, the album I used to turn other people onto GCH (pre-Katy Perry and her video cameos). The Heroes released a sequel to the underground fan favourite, The Papercut Chronicles II and a year later they're still dropping videos. Directed by Va$htie, "Martyrial Girl$" looks like an old Garbage video, and even has a similar anti-conformist feel, with lines like "I'd rather be sedated than conversate about whose sneakers are more outrageous, or whose outfit is the latest." I must admit I do prefer my "Travie" a little darker (drug abuse not required).

Madness - Muse

Music Monday....  this song came out last week, but I can't seem to get enough it. The track was written after lead singer Matthew Bellamy and his girlfriend Kate Hudson ( my twin ) had a spat.  He took some time and "Madness" evolved.

Honestly I haven't listen to much of Muse's work, but after hearing this track, I've decided that I may need to go back in their discography and check things out.

Go to Muses website and give Madness a listen and you may decided that you need to check things out a little further too.

True Blood Season 5 Finale

It's that time of year again, time to say good-bye to another season of True Blood.

Tonight at 9pm eastern standard time on TMN (the Movie Network) I will be watching the Season 5 final episode. This season hasn't seemed to WOW me and I actually was surprised to learn last week that their was only two episodes left.

After discussing it with my BFF AleashiaG, I guess I came to realize that actually quite a bit had happened.  Eric and Bill getting all tangled up with the Authority. Russell Edgington rises from the grave. Sookie trying to figure out who killed her parents. A gang goes on a killing spree trying to get rid of shifters. Hoyt decides that he doesn't want to remember Jess and Jason anymore.  Tara becomes a Vampire. Alcide ends up recalling his pack induction.

Ok so maybe it seems like it goes on and on.  Maybe I didn't pay much attention on these last 11 Sunday nights.  But I can't say that I don't love a great season finale, so I'll be sitting in front of the tv with my BFF and my glass wine, waiting to see what cliffhangers await us this time.

Adidas Presents “The Return Of D Rose” Episode One

Four months ago, one of the most promising basketball stars was on the rise, who was capable of turning many games around in the 4th quarter often single-handedly. Derrick Rose was one of those players that you didn't just respect his game, you appreciated the man and his ability to remain humble and grateful in a world of smack-talking and gloaters (*cough* Russel Westbrook *cough*). All that was threatened April 28th when he was injured with a season-ending knee injury in the playoffs. As a childhood Chicago fan (I will follow the Zen Master anywhere, and what kid wasn't obsessed with Jordan?) I felt my heart ache for the 2011 MVP and as the new season is sliding our way a lot of fans want to know if their golden boy will be back on the court.

Last week Adidas and D Rose announced “The Return,” a multi-episode documentary showcasing the point guards hunger and ability to rise above a torn left ACL as he pushes through the recovery process. Watch the first episode “Belief,” as the normally private D Rose shares his thoughts of the previous season, his injury and his training after surgery.

Also check out the trailer below, which gives a brief look into whats to come.

The Bulls season opener is Wednesday, October 31 vs the Sacramento Kings

Who sets the Pace? We Do! Toronto Women's 10K/5K

"Women Set the Pace" that is the slogan for the up coming Toronto Women's run series 10K/5K race this Saturday August 25 at Toronto's Sunnybrook Park.

Back in 2009 I took part in the inaugural half marathon. It was truly a great and terrifying experience as it was my first half marathon.  But for the mere fact that this was an all womens race, I felt at ease.  The race was created with the idea of motivating and inspiring women to run. It gives us an opportunity to meet other female runners and to cross that finish line first, not just be the first women across.

This one day race has now expanded to three separate events. The first one this year was on May 27 with the half marathon and 5k run/walk. The second event is this coming Saturday, with the third and final race on October 27, which is an 8K/5K and there is still time to sign up!

Grab a few girlfriends, lace up those sneakers and start training. All it takes is putting one foot in front of the other. Run like the wind Ladies!!!!!

Happy Birthday Kobe!

Today the object of my undying respect, awe and affection turns 34. If I'm ever looking for an image of the power of self evolution, Kobe Bryant is it. The Black Mamba himself has managed to alter his game to fit his age and body (injuries included) and is playing possibly better than he ever has. The man has spent half his life playing ball (pro) and he's about to start his 17th season (and I can't wait!); the man has five rings, (and thanks to the addition of Nash and D12 I'm already planning my trip to LA to take part in the parade), he's been honoured with seven MVP awards and has been smashing records the past year.

The only downside to this day is that I know he's spending it with his ... wife, since as it turns out she didn't file the final divorce papers. Looks like I need to find "Kobe IV" and not the original... for now.

Cheers to your sixth ring Kobes and cheers to you, Happy birthday!

"Partying" with The Real L Word

I've chosen to take a little hiatus from my party girl life and I've found a new guilty pleasure for my Thursday Devils Night ~ Showtime's The Real L Word.

In its third season, they have decided to go Bi-Coastal from LA all the way to Brooklyn. The show is still full of the regular cast along with some new faces Kiyomi front women for Hunter Valentine, Somer keyboard player in Hunter Valentine, Lauren a jeweler and Amanda, Laurens BFF.

So far 6 episodes in and it's your typical Real L Word season, there have been many cat fights, quite a few tears and tons of makin out.

The only twist so far this season, is Romi revealing that she is bi-sexual. She started the season off with a boyfriend Jay. After realizing that Jay didn't want a relationship, she got back together with her ex Kelsey. Soberity is looking good on them.

Some other major news, Whitney has finally decided to commit to one women. She proposed to Sara and she said yes!!!!! My guess is the wedding may happen Season 4?

There are so many other story lines in this show and if you are interested, join me in watching the next episode tonight at 11pm eastern standard time on TMN ( the movie network).

J*DaVeY – Little Tramp$ (Video)

I always get a sense of pleasure when I come accross new material from the fabulous J*Davey in my inbox; the latest is a a video for "Little Tramp$" from their latest effort New Designer Drug, which is available now. The black and white Spaghetto-directed visual mosaic was inspired by Mike Tyson on Broadway and features a collection of objects, including keyboardist/producer Brook D'Leau taking a pounding from female boxers.

Watch the video below and shout outs to the creative director Vasha (Naivasha) Thomas.

Bernado Bertolucci's Me and You (Io e Te) (TIFF)

Stumbling through the internet today, I came across some wonderful news Bernardo Bertolucci's new film Me and You will be at the 2012 TIFF.

His first Italian film in 30 years has come with some so so reviews. The story is about two young adults Lorenzo (Jacopo Olmo Antinori) and Olivia (Tea Falco) taking some refuge in the basement of Lorenzo's home.

Olivia is struggling with her drug demons and the rejection of her family, while Lorenzo is trying to find a quiet place to get away from all the hardships of his life. It seems like it will be a dark film but usually in the darkness there is always a silver lining.

And the silver lining may just be the soundtrack of the film. After reading quite a few reviews it seems that this album might be joining my collection of soundtracks. The album features some of the following artists The Cure, David Bowie and Canadian band Arcade Fire.  If this soundtrack is anything like his for Stealing Beauty, it's sure to be played over and over again on my stereo.

Catch Me in the Rye - The Comic

Here is one more thing to tide us over while we anticipate the October 23 release of Miles Jones's next album, the Jones Act Part III. Catch Me in the Rye the Comic, illustrations and story by Ben Roboly.

Ben Roboly will be selling the comic at the Fan Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this Thursday August 23 to Sunday August 26. There are only 50 limited edition first print copies, make sure to grab your self a copy before they all disappear.

Mann - Bend Ya f. Kendrick Lamar & Frank Ocean

21-year-old LA rapper, Mann dropped a new track yesterday following his LP last year Mann's World, and the 5'4" man has managed to get two of the hottest acts in the game right now to be featured on it. Originally, rumours swirled that the track was fake but Kendrick Lamar took to his Twitter account to dispel the myth and give the kid his earned credit.
Correction: Blogs. Don't slight the homie @mann and take him off his own song.? Credit when due. @Mann ft. Kendrick Lamar ,Frank Ocean.
First appearing on a track with former Raptors forward Julian Wright, then befriending Lady Gaga, now this unexpected (yet exciting) collab.. what will K. Dot do next?

TIFF Lightbox Gordon Smith/X-Men Exhibit

Time for another TIFF Lightbox exhibit and this time it’s Free.

This exhibit is a dedication to the Ontarian Gordon Smith makeup and special effects artist. This Genius has worked on many films, but is best known for his accomplishments on X-Men and X-Men 2.

The self-taught artist was the pioneer for using a form of silicone prosthetic technology that sticks to the body and moves with it, while other artists were simply using make up.

There will be several costumes from the X-Men films on display. Take this oppurtunity to get a glimpse of Wolverines outfit and the voluptuous Mystiques full body suit.

This homage to Gordon Smith is on from August 17, 2012 till March 2013.

J. Cole - I'm a Fool (Rock the Bells Performance Download)

Rock the Bells annual festival took place in San Bernardino this past weekend, and for the first time since its inception it spanned the entire two day weekend, that's right 24 hours (more or less) of hip hop! I love Rock the Bells especially the Cali-leg of tour (this is one area, that unfortunately Toronto does wrong!) but I am not sure I'd be able to cope with that, but maybe that's also my age...

Speaking of being grown, "Grew Up Fast" emcee J. Cole aka Grown Simba premiered a new track "I'm a Fool" on Day 1 of the Festival, and the good people responsible for the internet have ripped that audio and made it available to download for the listening pleasure of those of us who could not make it to the 2 Day long event!

Rochelle Jordan - P R E S S U R E (download)

Toronto singer/songwriter Rochelle Jordan has released her second EP, P R E S S U R E for free download on her website. She released her first ep R O J O produced by her in-house producer KLSH, exactly a year ago in August 2011, which boasts 90,000 downloads in the first week.

Fun fact: Rochelle not only shares band mates with Toronto phenomenon The Weeknd, her name was also mentioned in Drake's track "Club Paradise" (granted he's referring to her as a stripper, and there were rumours that her track "Shot" was a response to that shout out); clearly she's well situated in Toronto's music scene and is worth keeping an eye out for!

Lady Gaga x Kendrick Lamar

This morning Lady Gaga took to her twitter account to announce her latest collab.
I am so excited to announce that a record I've been working on has now become a collaboration with @KendrickLamar for HIS ALBUM.
Gaga's collaborated with Wale, and already publicly announced her love and appreciation for Kendrick's music, so I'm not quite sure why I'm so surprised about this collaboration, and yet I am. I'm not mad at it though, I may not be the biggest fan of Gaga's music (aka not a fan AT ALL), but I did enjoy that Wale joint and this should certainly get Kendrick's name out there, where it belongs.

good kid, m.A.A.d city is set to release October 2nd of 2012 and will also feature Aftermath founder Dr. Dre, J. Cole, Curren$y, and Kendrick Lamar's tourmates Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller

B.o.B – Play the Guitar f. AndrĂ© 3000 (Video)

I'm in a 3-Stacks kind of mood as of late, so when I came across this Bobby Ray video featuring the linguistic leader, I couldn't pass it by... even if it is considered "old" by the Internets standards.

B.o.B's sophomore album
Strange Clouds, is in stores now.

KiD CuDi - Just What Iam ft. King Chip

For the past two weeks I have been on the go! With visitors from NYC and Las Vegas (shout outs to 2DopeBoyz and YouHeardThatNew) and then my own Las Vegas vacation with the ladies... Truthfully, I feel as if I've been on the go all summer, since my birthday week! And thus been a bit neglectful, but let's not dwell on the past, and agree to forgive each other our shortcomings and move forward... With Music Monday!

July 10th Scott Mescudi took to his Twitter account to update some of the features he has lined up for his upcoming double disc album indicud,
"Features thus far, Kanye, Pusha, Jaden, Kendrick Lemar, Chip, Cage, got something for Hov I wanna play him, still gotta link w 50 and Banks"
Not a bad list of features at all! Cage? Fucking dope! He's also mentioned wanting to get back in the studio with MGMT. For the first track I've heard off the album Cudi enlists King Chip (Chip tha Ripper) for his self-produced track "Just What Iam," peep the track below.
