Grammy Fashion: Red Carpet Winners and Snoozers

With all the Oscar specials taking over my television today before the Oscar Red Carpet presentation begins, I wanted to use this time to show the fashion of the music industry's Oscar-counterpart, the Grammy's which aired earlier this month. There a few carpet-walkers in this list who would almost fit in with the more refined Oscar crowd, however it's mostly due to leaving their fashion creativity in the studio.

Taylor Swift was one of my favourites of the evening, granted she was in her signature sparkly nude gown but this cap-sleeved Zuhair Muard Fall 2011 Couture gown offered a new twist to what we're used to from the country singer.

And the back was just exquisite.

Of course Taylor brought things home and down to earth in her Little House on the Prairie performance dress, just shows how well this country girl cleans and glams up.

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but I am a fan of something that is associated with Jessie J! Her silver Julien MacDonald dress. Granted she did refer to herself as a "personal disco-ball" and it's no secret I am a sucker for disco-fashion, but she wore a perfect option to this occasion.

Another winner was Gwyneth Paltrow looking consistently svelte in a black cut-out Stella McCartney gown. I love the gold waist detailing and am envious of any woman who can wear that sort of cut-in strap.

While Adele isn't as svelte as Gwyneth, she flattered her curves in a three-quarter-length-sleeved Giorgio Armani black sequined gown. She looked sultry and glamorous a perfect combination for her vocal talent.

Adele's performance had a similar feel, however it had a nude liner with an odd neckline that didn't quite fit the rest of the tea-length gown. It was a little too Sears fashion than Hollywood fashion.

Carrie Underwood is normally a hit on the red-carpet, however this boat-neck Gomez-Garcia sequined dress feels a little underwhelming, as if I've seen her wear it before. Plus it's a little too covered-up for such an event.

And that's where Fergie steps in with her bright orange lace Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown! Do I love the dress? Yes. Is this the right occasion to wear it? Absolutely. Is it perfect? No. I wish she had chosen less crass undergarments. I'm not saying they have to be nude, but black feels too costumey.

Miranda Lambert looks pretty and boring.

And Kelly Rowland isn't too far behind in pale pink Alberta Ferretti gown. I really would have loved to see something more fashion-forward and fun on the "Motivation" singer, something sexier.

But the winner for the Snooze award is Julianne Hough, who has forgotten that she is in early 20s and has an incredible dancers body. Much like her singing career, this needs some refreshing.
