Katy Perry - E.T. ft. Kanye West (video)

Katy has released the visuals for her latest single off of Teenage Dream, which just so happened to be one of my favourite tracks from her sophomore album, and one that I've mentioned in the past reminds me of T.A.T.U. Coincidence that this song's title and the name of the Russian duo that I believe inspired the beat both contain punctuation? I think not!

Directed by Canadian Floria Sigismondi, who most recently wrote and directed Twilight's Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in The Runaways. She also directed Christina Aguilera's "Hurt" and "Fighter," this is her first collaboration with Katy, but perhaps this will be the start of a new visual relationship.

At the Juno's: Red Carpet Arrivals

Sunday night here in Toronto, was the 40th Annual Juno Awards, hosted by Toronto-born emcee Drake,

Who walked the Red Carpet looking ever so dapper with with his petite mother Sandi, and his grown out hair. This event was the moment that I stopped obsessing over Drake's irritatingly straight hairline, and saw the the attractive and hilarious dude under it.

Drake's first celebrity girlfriend & Juno winning singer Keisha Chante looked elegant in a Grecian inspired Romona Keveza gown. On a gossip note, not only has the "Canadian Princess of Pop" been linked to Drake, but she was rumoured to be "the other woman" that text Chris Brown, which ultimately led to his widely-publicized "altercation" [read: assaulted his girlfriend] with Rihanna .

New Brunswick singer Mia Martina, who's first single "Stereo Love" reached #10 in the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 in November 2010, wore one of my favourite dresses of the night. It reminds me of a dress I wanted from Marciano, I love the tie-dyed effect and how bohemian chic it feels.

One of Canada's most well known songstresses, Sarah McLachlan, attended the Juno's looking chic and edgy in all black. I like how she "dressed up" the look with the tuxedo jacket.

Another member of Canada's "broke through the US market" club, and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, Shania Twain arrived wearing this black and white beaded full length tulle gown, that I both like and dislike. I can't quite put my finger on it, either the neckline is too high or the skirt doesn't flair out enough, or it flairs too much... I can't decide, but considering how horrible of dresser Shania is normally, this is fabulous!

Dancer, choreographer, actress and judge of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Tré Armstrong looked lovely in this printed, strapless gown. She's making me crave more of this sunshine!

Canada's hip-hop ambassador, Kardinall Offishall showed up looking fly in a sateen red suit, and looking like a pimp in his fur collared jacket. You can hear Kardi's T.O. "Anthem" this Saturday at the TFC home game.

Singer Dallas Green and former Much Music VJ Leah Miller look like they may be on their way to being Canada's newest power couple. Such an unexpected pairing, but it's making me warm up to both of them, only slightly though. I may still think Leah is incredibly fake (on screen at least), but I am very much enjoying her Alexander McQueen mini, the hair however, well let's just say, this isn't yoga it's a Red Carpet Leah.

At the Juno's: Drake "Old Money"

One of the highlight's for me at last night's Juno Awards, was the following skit starring Canadian emcee Drake,

"Swag, swag, swag, swag... Ok, you could get arrest for that, don't do that."

I'm a Drake fan, but not like most girls I know who are Drake fanatics. I've just never looked at him like that, I think he's talented, I like his lyrics, but it ends there. This video however put him on my bona fide crush list. I forgot for a second that before he was Drake the rapper, he was Aubrey Graham the actor. Hilarious.

My least favourite part of the Juno Awards was that they used Drake to get higher ratings, and much like the Academy Awards use of Anne Hathaway and James Franco, appeal to a younger audience, and yet they completely snubbed him and most of the Hip Hop genre in the awards category. They did, however make sure that Bieber won a couple of awards this year, since last year he was apparently pissed off that he lost, and had expected to win. Maybe that's why he didn't find it important to actually attend the ceremony... either that or he's presently touring in Europe. Perhaps opening for underground Hip Hop talent Cunninlynguists, on their European tour? "Yeah motherf*cker"

John Legend - Rolling in the Deep (Cover)

Spotted over at, 9 time Grammy winner, John Legend has released a cover of Adele's Billboard topping track about a scorned lover, "Rolling in the Deep." I really need to give Wake Up! his latest album, released September 21st 2010 another listen, I forgot how great he is... clearly I need to Wake Up! Yes, I did just use an obvious pun, ignore that and enjoy the track below.

R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor

Today we lost the only woman I can imagine as playing Cleopatra, the creator of Diamonds and originator of the celebrity fragrance, a woman who once said "I am a very committed wife, and I should be committed too...for being married so many times," thanks to her revolving-door marriage practices, who possesed two of the most beautiful eyes to ever be caught on camera, Elizabeth Taylor. The Oscar winning actress died today due to congestive heart failure at age 79, and a piece of the Golden Age of Hollywood died with her.

Having been compared to her most of my life (and was flattered every single time; she could honestly pass as one of my family members, they are that beautiful), I always felt an odd connection to the Social Acitivist and cancer surviver. There is no better time than now, to pop in a copy of Suddenly Last Summer, and recite every actresses favourite monologue..."He-he was lying naked on the broken stones...and this you won't believe! Nobody, nobody, nobody could believe it! It looked as if-as if.. they had devoured him!" Elizabeth is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, but she will be missed by millions.

Party Fashion!

So I had this post set and ready to write, errr.. 2 weeks ago or so? And I was gonna say something "clever" like, "just in time for the weekend, let's look at some party fashion" and then share some Oscar After-Party fashion that got my attention. Unfortunately my post was never finished, because I had to hurry myself to get ready to go support an acquaintances "DJ gig." This same gig is the one he borrowed my friends MacBook for, the same MacBook I've been using while squatting staying at her place, since mine needs a new motherboard.... Anyway, that night we left the MacBook with this alleged gentleman, only for it to be returned in the morning stinking of beer, so much so that it was still wet! Yes, someone spilled a pint of beer all over the MacBook and it was only replaced recently. So now discussing Oscar fashion on a Tuesday, weeks after said fashion has been worn, seems a bit futile... And yet, how can one resist when some of the dresses are just sooooo noteworthy.

Such as this beautiful nude and black floral lace Zuhair Murad gown that Camilla Alves wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar party, why she did not wear this to the actual ceremony is beyond me! If there's ever a time to pull out your best dress the Academy Awards is it, you can premiere your secondary choice at the party. Am I right, or am I right?

Which is exactly what Gwyneth Paltrow did, she wore her stunner to the ceremony and this far off, fourth maybe sixth choice for the party.... Wait, don't do that one either. Clearly I am not a fan of this tan Michael Kors jersey dress, and I had such high hopes for Gwyneth after loving the dress she wore to the Oscar's earlier this same day. Has anyone maneuvered the "after party change" gracefully? Anyone?

Looks like Marisa Tomei is as good as we're going to get. She changed out of her poorly altered vintage gown that possessed so much potential, into this simple and tailored hot pink column gown.

The following ladies didn't do much better:

I see what you were trying to do here, Anna Kendrick, I really do, and yet you look like an Oscar Party Favour in your red Notte by Marchesa mini... Like you're part of the swag bag. And although I know there are some pretty kick ass gifts in those bags, whoring yourself out to Oscar Nominees, when you've already been one, is not the best way to keep the buzz around your name.

GO UP A SIZE DAMMIT! I have no idea why you decided to crop this Carolina Herrera gown, it's making your thighs look bigger than they really are.

Or you can always do what Madonna did and forgo any form of leg coverings altogether, in hopes of escaping any thigh magnification... and in the process embarrassing the hell out of your teenage daughter. I can literally read the shame on Lourdes face, and yet at the same time, the familiarity.. Oh that zany pantless mom of yours.

Hold Up! RIP Nate Dogg

Let's remember the man the way I'm sure he'd like to be remembered....

Today is a very sad day for Hip Hop, and music in general, as we've lost one of the smoothest voices featured over some of the most loved tracks. Nathaniel Dwayne Hale aka Nate Dogg passed away last night at the age of 41, most likely related to the strokes he suffered within the past couple of years. If Nate was featured on a track, it was pretty much guaranteed to be a success, he will be missed. We'll see you in the next episode, and we expect you to be regulating in the sky.

Oh Land - Sun of a Gun (Video)

Danish singer Nanna Oland's self-titled album, Oh Land, was released yesterday March 15th, and the former ballet dancer's first album has already broke through the US Top 20 the day of it's release.

Oh Land describes the album as "all of my secrets, wishes, dreams and fears. I tell stories from my life wrapped in fairytales and fables all happening in the dreamy landscapes of a world I call Oh Land. I hope people will find an escape in the music and let their thoughts and dreams run wild, just for a moment." After an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, the Danish singer's single "Sun of a Gun" began getting a lot of press, even though the song was originally released in October 2010; this past week she's received a lot of buzz at this year's SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

I find she resembles a beautiful cross between Canadian model Amber Wignall and Mischa Barton, what do you think? I mean about the music of course! Which I clearly love and have not have kept this video as a constant in my YouTube video, and now I can not turn off her album. You can pick yours up on iTunes, here.

Oscar Fashion Roundup

It's time to close out Oscar night with all the ladies that I found disappointing or lackluster, which truthfully I found the entire night lacking lust. One of the biggest nights in Red Carpet Fashion was so incredibly dull and disappointing, it was very hard to get inspired to comment on any of them, unlike the 2009 Academy Awards, can we get a repeat of those please?

To really emphasize my point, let's look at Natalie Portman, who looked so incredibly sad and depressed on the Red Carpet. Her custom flowy Rodarte gown was pretty, and purple is a great colour for her, but she seemed miserable which may have influenced my opinion of her look. I really wish she took a bigger pregnancy fashion risk, but at least she kept one of her accessories interesting with the tassel earrings.

Also disappointing and in purple was Ex-Mrs Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson. Her "one of a kind" amethyst Dolce & Gabbana lace gown lacked any real inspiration and even reminded me of a black D&G mini Britney Spears wore years ago. And her hair... it looks as if she just came back from the beach and hung her head out of her limo-window to dry it. With that said, this is a step up from many of Scarlett's red-carpet mishaps as of late, except for the hair, so I'll take if I must.

Another disappointment from someone I had such high hopes for, Sandra Bullock wore a red silk faille, custom Vera Wang mermaid gown. Yawn.

Julia Ormond's lace mermaid gown, looks very similar to the Zuhair Murad Couture gown that Christina Aguilera wore to the Golden Globes, only this lacks the tailoring and perfection of her gown. It's like the A.B.S. knock-off.
Thank you Sharon Stone, for wearing ostrich feathers and Bride of Frankenstein hair, that Scarlett made famous at the Golden Globes this year. After the snooze-fest above, her black, silk crepe Dior gown is a much needed nudge.

I have no idea who Cody Horn is... And while I was originally going to say that I thought her dress was interestingly cute, and I could have done without the gloves, I have now changed my mind and wish she wore more glove... maybe even some lace leg warmers. I mean at this point, why not?

Oscar's Round Two

The following are indeed Red Carpet Standouts who either fell short and were not worthy of a first round mention or stood out for all the wrong reasons. Case and point:

Marisa Tomei's poorly tailored Lily et Cie 1950 Charles James aubergine gown had so much potential for greatness, and yet the bodice was ill-fitting, It's disappointing, considering this gown had so much dramatic promise.

I thought Jennifer Lawrence looked superb and model-like in her simple Calvin Klein tank dress, she looked sexy and not as if she were trying to hard with a bunch of bells and whistles, and layers of tulle, and I'm a bit surprised most people shunned her look. Baywatch was a worldwide favourite for a reason...

I will never say anything bad about Helena Bonham-Carter, I just can't; She's far too much of a theatrical genius. Although someone should probably let her know that her Union Jack garter is a bit too low.

I only recognized Florence+the Machine singer Florence Welch because of her fashion choice, and the the fiery hair. I've never seen her face look so soft and pretty, perhaps her romantic long-sleeved, tiered canary Valentino Couture dress has reflected onto her usually edgy features.

Annette Benning, I love you, and I think you look amazing. I do wish you minaudiere did not blend so much with your Naeem Khan gown. The emerald drop earrings are great though.

My first impression of Oscar winner, Melissa Leo's gold and lace overlay dress was mediocre, it looks nice better than many of her past fashion choices, but as the night wore on, the popped collared dress grew on me. What really won me over, however, was her spider pendant!

I have a weird affection for jewelery resembling insects (and fruit), even though I have a paralyzing insectophobia. I also love how it also followed the emerald trend of the night, with the subtle gems throughout the body, and the contrast against the lace. I should own this.

I was so pleasantly pleased when I saw Michelle Williams in this full-length beaded Chanel Couture gown... until I saw the shoes! What on earth were you thinking with such closed-toe clunkers when you have on such a streamlined silhouette. On a positive note, she seemed to have a walked the carpet with Dawson's Creek alum, Busy Phillips. I find that pleasantly impressive that they are still friends.

Salut Celine! She looked superb in a simple, fitted Giorgio Armani Privé gown. C'est magnifique. No the French accent could not have been avoided.

I appreciate Mandy Moore's attempt at looking lovely, and was initially pleased with it... then I somehow forgot my initial opinion and I decided her nude, sequined Monique Lhullier gown was horrible once I saw her performance gown. I finally compared the two side by side, however and realized how horrible her performance gown was and that this was incredible...but considering a gown in comparison is never a good sign and should rarely be considered a win. So I've decided to pass on this and move on...

On to cleavage, thanks to Camilla Alves in a black taffeta Kaufman Franco with plunging neckline. Just another reminder that pregnancy can be a beautiful thing.

Halle Berry was originally in my initial list of Standouts along with many others in this list, but I finally decided that although her nude, ruffled Marchesa gown is beautiful, it's also somewhat boring. Then again, perhaps I should be happy that she's not wearing something sheer or exposing her G-String straps? Alright, this comparison is a win!

Oscar Standouts!

While watching the Academy Awards, there were a few moments on the Red Carpet that really made me stop in my keyboard tracks to stare, shout, ogle, etc... Those jaw-dropping moments all started with the following:

Mila Kunis! Wow. AMAZING! She was pure perfection in this Parisian draped, lilac tiered-lace Elie Saab Couture gown.

Keeping on the lilac perfection trend, can we just take a moment to appreciate the exquisiteness that is Cate Blanchett in this lilac chiffon, embroidered, pearl-bauble encrusted Givenchy gown

There were only two gowns that really took my breath away and this flowy and pretty, yet structured and artistic gown had me gasping for air.

After the first two Standouts the remaining Oscar attendees didn't really stand much of a chance, but there were a few that tried... Both Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman impressed me with their gown choices. Nicole opted for a white Christian Dior column gown with silver embroidered bustier and a Kimono-inspired leaf-motif sash. The stark white gown avoided looking bridal thanks to all the excessories, namely those poppy-red Pierre Hardy peep toes. And then there's Gwyneth's sleek gold Calvin Klein dress that she complimented with her pin straight blonde tresses and glowing tan.

Reese Witherspoon looked like a Glamour-Movie Barbie doll from the 60s thanks to that high ponytail and classic black and white strapless Armani Privé dress, which she paired with a notable trend of the evening, emeralds.

Hailee Stedman looks like a ballerina princess in a blush tea-length, crystal encrusted Marchesa gown. A beautiful breath of fresh hair and has been a consistent winner on the Red Carpet!

Amy Adams encrusted sequined sapphire blue Lauren Scott gown grew on me more and more as the night continued on, especially once I saw it on-stage. It was beautifully complimented by her hair, and the emerald jewellery was an unexpected touch.

Jennifer Hudson continues to shock and amaze with her size... and her plunging tangerine Atelier Versace gown ensured she was not overlooked. The colour was great on her, and besides her shoving the only reminder of her previous size behind that halter top she looked great. It'd be nice, however, if she treated the girls with a little more respect and appreciation.

Hilary Swank was barely shown on the screen during the Red Carpet special, which is unfortunate considering how beautiful her ombre feather Gucci Premiere gown was.

Penelope Cruz just had a baby. Really? Seriously!? I have never found her exceptionally attractive, what-so-ever, until now. She looked glowing (and delightfully busty) in a L'Wren Scott gown. I could have done without the sequined flames sparking down the skirt, however.

Mark Ruffalo's wife Sunrise Coigney stood out for multiple reasons: the first being her hair, whether good or bad, the sleek bob really grabbed my attention, the second of course was the one-sleeve, shoulder volumizer, the third was her gold boob... which I didn't realize until seeing the photos that her dress was actually split down the side and it wasn't just the boob that was gold, her entire left side got the golden treatment.
