Music Monday: Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers (video)

I believe Lykke Li has been a constant force that keeps bringing Music Mondays back, the newest installment is her video for "I Follow Rivers" which Lykke stars alongside Swedish Lebanese actor Fares Fares, directed by Tarik Saleh, formerly one of Sweden's most prominent graffiti artists in the 90s. Note the emphasis on the Swedish influence and use of Swedish talent,
"Following the footsteps of Andrei Tarkovsky's "The Sacrifice"
it is shot on the magic island of Gotland, Närsholmen to be specific."

A place like no other, a love like no other.
A love like a drug, she loves like the river,
a love caught on fire, fueled by desire.
Where you running, who you running from?
A love story with no end and no beginning.

Golden Globe Favourites

Emma Stone was one of my favourites on the Golden Globe Red Carpet, for multiple reasons. First, I loved the unexpected colour of her floor length, cap sleeve coral Calvin Klein Collection gown, second I love that the backless gown was simple and conservative, yet was still sexy thanks to the (almost) flesh tone and form fit. Also, I am a fan of her new blonde do, the shade is perfect, in fact it almost makes me regret going dark! She looks great. As a side and related note, now may be a good time to confess my girl crush on the raspy-voiced Easy "A" actress; but I'm not confessing any bias!

The first dress I took note of for the evening was Girl Crush Olivia Wilde in a strapless, gold sequined embroidered, chocolate Marchesa ball gown. Somehow, although she's sporting a similar style as Sandra Bullock, I do not hate her hair; Yes I think I'd prefer it better styled differently but she's still working the event without hiding under her bangs. But let's forget what's at the top...

Let's talk about the shoes..."The shoes. The shoes? It's gotta be the shoes!" I swear I haven't seen anything this amazing since Alexander McQueen's "Titanic Ballet Pump" in 2009. These Christian Louboutin "Bridget's Back" gold studded ankle boots would look great with a mini or a pair of jeans, and are a shocking compliment to this gown. Well done Olivia.

Ever since her breakup with fraudulent Italian Businessman Raffaello Follieri Anne Hathaway has been looking great! Way to get that breakup revenge! I love this muted bronze Armani Privé gown, she resembles what Daryl Hannah's character in Splash would look like if she starred in Dynasty. The entire gown is made of Swarovski crystal paillettes, but the exaggerated shoulders are really what makes the statement. Like Emma Stone in her virtually-full-coverage Calvin Klein, Anne uses an open back to subtly exude sex appeal.

For anyone that knows me, Jennifer Lopez being on my list is a bit of a shocker, but I actually really appreciate her white silk chiffon Zuhair Murad dress. I usually complain that JLo dresses like an elderly Hollywood star, and while this could easily fall under that category, thanks to the crystal-trimmed, tulle capelet, that is my favourite part.

There isn't much I can say about Kyra Sedgwick's mustard Emilio Pucci gown, except that it looks great on her, it's little out of season and clashes with the Red Carpet, but she still looks exceptional in it.

Glee actress, Amber Riley really worked her curves in a shimmery, encrusted, pewter Oliver Tolentino asymmetrical, belted mermaid dress.

News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch's wife, Wendy Murdoch, looked like a walking Disco ball. Which I'm forever a fan of.

Clearly Christina Aguilera's Golden Globes choice was inspired by her recent role in Burlesque, which I never got to see, since it was apparently a box-office disappointment and didn't last as long as I had expected in theatres. Disappointing. What isn't disappointing is her black lace, strapless Zuhair Murad Couture gown. Besides disco balls, I've been a long time obsessor (not really a word) of lace, especially black lace over nude lining. I want this dress as a shoe, it used to exist, I'm sure it will again... but I digress. The dress is great, the hair is lackluster. I see where she was going with it, but fell short in execution.

No shocker that Sofia Vergara looked incredibly sexy at the Golden Globes, she also looked thinner than usual. Fortunately, she's still retained her best assets, that were accentuated by a belted, red satin Vera Wang corseted mermaid gown.

Remember when wearing sweater sets with ball gowns was all the rage on the red carpet? I'm certain Gwyneth Paltrow did it one year, well the Tilda Swinton is bringing it back with the help of her Jil Sander button up and skirt. I love how she plays with fashion, and knows how to work everything from the everyday to the absurd.

Golden Globes - Natural Girls

One of the other major trends I noticed on the 2011 Golden Globes Red Carpet, besides the Sea of Green, were all the neutral toned gown. The trend was particularly noted on two (possible) media rivals;

Scarlett Johansson's pale peach Elie Saab gown was soft and romantic with it's embroidery and floral appliqués, but with her makeup and that hair (oh that hair) she looked a good 15 years older. The sleeves do not help either, normally you don't start to hide your arms until after 40. Under regular circumstances, I'd probably love this, but I really think she looks horrible.. again though that could be thanks to that hair. Let's focus in,

So she separates from her hunky hubby, Ryan Reynolds and decides to vie for Frankenstein's eye? Great move there ScarJo, isn't the rule after a breakup is to go out looking as hot as humanly possible? Doped up Bride of Frankenstein is not exactly cutting it.

But not to worry Scarlett! Sandra Bullock (Ryan's rumoured new love interest) had horrible hair too! Maybe we should blame this on Ryan? Sounds good to me! From now on whenever I have a bad hair day, I'm blaming my ex! Horrible clip in fringe aside, I really liked her pale pink, crystal encrusted Jenny Packham gown, but she did it a horrible disservice. She needed a romantic updo with such a dress, going so sleek and modern makes the gown come off looking sloppy.

Take a lesson from Leighton ladies. She did vintage-looking romance with appropriate hair but kept it modern and edgy with suede, jewelled Jimmy Choo platforms and a Louis Vuitton tassel minaudière. I'm a sucker for romance and am in love with this nude, printed Burberry Prorsum dress.

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland also successfully pulled off the neutral look in beige, strapless Max Azria Atelier gown. The sweetheart neckline and lace bodice really upped the romance factor and Mikimoto necklace, updo (and bangs) brought a lot of attention to her pretty face.

Glee's Dianna Agron looked lovely and sophisticated in a strapless beige, pleated silk chiffon J. Mendel beaded gown. The Veronica Lake waves were a perfect compliment to the dress and her face (take note Reynold's victims!).

Another Glee actress opted for a sophisticated neutral dress. Heather Morris' gold, beaded Lorena Sarbu was simple perfection, similar to her character...

I can not decide what exactly it is I feel for Kaley Cuoco's pale peach, tiered, strapless Katharine Kidd gown, perhaps its the trim that's throwing me off, or the way the colour really washes her out. It reminds me of Drew Barrymore's 2010 SAG Monique Lhuillier gown, which I quite enjoyed, but this... Sigh. It's just blah.

I usually love Carrie Underwood's Red Carpet choices, but I find her crystal encrusted neutral-toned Badgley Mischka Couture strapless gown so incredibly dull. Pretty, sure, but boring. And since I'm on a hair critique roll, I hate the pageant french twist, also completely unimaginative. Yawn.

Golden Globes - Pretty in Pink

Last year purple reigned at the Golden Globes, this year things are muted, and lighter, much lighter.

The pinkest of them all was Glee standout, Lea Michele wearing a one shoulder, silk faille Oscar de la Renta gown, that reminded me of two of my favourites, Peaches n' Cream Barbie and Marilyn Monroe, thanks to the ruffle detail congregating at her hip. She does a good job at keeping this colour from looking bubblegum, thanks to the makeup choice.

I don't normally showcase Red Carpet presenters, for some reason I do not believe they deserve any kudos for their Awards gowns- perhaps since they are not actually attending, nor receiving the awards, regardless I've made Maria Menounos in a pale pink, tiered Pamella Roland dress an exception. Why? I like the dress, that's why, it's pretty.

First, WTF?!?!?! Did Megan Fox do to her face? She's young, way too young to look like Joan Rivers slightly younger sister. Lay off the Botox, step away from the cosmetic surgeon. I only say this because I care. You were a pretty girl before any procedures, then you had achieved a sultry vixen inhuman hotness, now you've almost become Cat Lady. As a side note, I think the pale pink, custom Armani Privé dress is lovely and sexy and the Brian Atwood shoes are a great compliment and completely covet-worthy.

Hey Naya, take note from Megan, leave at the breast enhancement, and while you're at it gain some weight. Where on earth are your hips?!?! I'd make a Jessica Rabbit reference, only you're lacking all the curves. Your pale pink strapless, Douglas Hannant column dress is still sexy though, but I'm afraid the weight of your upper body is going to make your wee little legs and baby hips crumble.

Golden Globes - Sea of Green

One of the most notable trends on the 2011 Golden Globes Red Carpet, was a sea of green; but do not worry, there was not a single patch of "bridesmaid" sea foam green in the bunch!

The woman who got the most recognition for sporting this flattering colour trend was Angelina Jolie in long sleeved, backless, Kelly/Emerald Atelier Versace gown which was littered in Swarovski crystals. I love the silhouette the bold shoulders creates, granted you can't notice it as much in the photo I chose, but that's because Angie & Brad made such a spectacle of their love that I thought it blasphemous to deny them their shine as a twosome. I am not in the same awe with this dress as I've heard others are, but that's because, colour aside, this dress is very typically Angelina Jolie, long, flowy, jewelled. I'd also like to point out that Angie first wore this colour at last year's Oscar's, with her beautiful Lorraine Schwartz emerald drop earrings and massive cocktail ring.

Black Swan's Mila Kunis looked striking in her Jade, pleated, one shouldered Vera Wang gown. The dress' colour was a perfect compliment to her skin tone and chocolate locks. It appears green and brunettes are made for each other, and here we thought it was just for the gingers.

With that said, Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss looked lovely in her custom made, Donna Karen Hunter gown, however if she were a brunette she would look ravishing. The silk, strapless gown itself is beautifully intricate with it's folds and butterfly bodice, and fits Elisabeth flawlessly.

My least favourite, following the trend of the evening was Catherine Zeta-Jones in a dramatic Forest green Monique Lhuiller ballgown. Part of me thinks it's incredible, another part thinks it looks like a sofa..and a whole other part is reminded of Scarlett O'Hara, which could never be a bad thing... I'm so torn. Or in this case, rumpled...around my intestines. I just took it too far, didn't I?
