American Music Awards: Taylor Swift

Before I share with you the looks from last night's American Music Awards, I first have to get one thing out of the way,

My shock over Taylor Swift's hair! I absolutely love her baby blond girls, especially when she was younger and wore them free and unruly, but this looks great on her! Granted I did not recognize the girl, but perhaps that's the point? To transform herself, and no longer appear as a "girl," since let's face it-- this is a very sophisticated cut and colour. Sleek hair has always let off an air of professionalism and refinement.

Throw in her edgy, "grown-up" Collette Dinnigan studded mini, it's clear Taylor is reaching for a new image. I wonder how long it will last? Or if the hair is for good or merely a wig? Which, as a side, somewhat related note, I need to find a few good wigs. I'm trying to decide between a platinum bob or dying my hair almost black and growing it out... Enough about me though, let's stare at Taylor's new do and those Jimmy Choos!

Bruno Mars - Grenade (video)

Why break a theme when such great videos are being premiered?! Hawaiian-born singer Bruno Mars done it again, making the ladies swoon with his romantic take on relationships and their demise as he sings, "Gave you all I had/And you tossed it in the trash/You tossed it in the trash, yes you did/To give me all your love is all I ever asked Cause what you don't understand is/I’d catch a grenade for ya/Throw my hand on a blade for ya/I’d jump in front of a train for ya/You know I'd do anything for ya/I would go through all this pain/Take a bullet straight through my brain/Yes, I would die for ya baby/But you won't do the same" in his new video "Grenade."

I love the harmony when Bruno sings the hook, "Gave you all I had and you tossed it in the trash/You tossed it in the trash, you did/To give me all your love is all I ever asked;" such a sad revelation that not many people could make sound so beautiful. Bruno explained the concept of the song and video on his website today:
"I get to share with you the visual companion piece to my new single, 'Grenade.' The song is about loving someone so deeply, and the pain of knowing that the person you love does not feel the same. The actions in this video serve as a metaphor, and should not be taken literally. I am aware of the power of visual media, and I encourage everyone who watches this video to understand that it is an artistic interpretation of the song, and not something to imitate."
"Grenade" is the second official single off Bruno's debut album Do-Wops & Hooligans, available now.

Keri Hilson - Pretty Girl Rock (video)

It seems to be video week here at TMP (I literally wrote "TIMP" first, wonder if that could be some new euphemism for "pimp." I'm not really sure how that would work or what the T would stand for...and the first word to come to mind is not appropriate to mention while attempting to discuss female empowerment!). It also seems to be "Woman's Week" First we had Lykke Li, then Rihanna, now Keri Hilson with the video for her ode-to-self "Pretty Girl Rock."

I had barely made if half way through the video and I was already loving it and imagining how often I'll be playing it when I get ready in the AM. Yes, I've had it on repeat from the moment I first hit play, but the video's visuals just heighten my affection, as Keri portrays beautiful women from ages. She celebrates the woman who paved the road for we females today from the Cabaret era of Josephine Baker, to Dorothy Dandridge, to the Boogie-Woogie era of the Andrews Sisters, Diana Ross' Motown, Donna Summer's 70s, Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" in the 80s and even TLC's "Creep." How can anyone hate that?

On an unrelated note, I'm loving her blonde bob at the very end. It's inspiring me to go even blonder, or perhaps I'll do a 180 and go black!

Rihanna - What's My Name? ft. Drake (Video)

Rihanna dropped the new visuals to her duet with Canadian bred Aubrey Graham, aka Drake "What's my Name?" this past weekend. I am obsessed with her last single off her album Loud, released today, "Only Girl (in the World)," so I'm planning on giving this latest one a few listens and see if it also grows on me. I am also obsessed with red hair, and have had it myself a few times and am absolutely loving it on the Barbadian singer... This has nothing to do with the video, except for if anything I'll watch it repetitively as I covet the shade of her hair!

Definitely not the same ethereal feel as "Only Girl," but it's sweet and has some good visuals.. and continues to entrance me with that hair! It evokes memories of the 90s and my love and obsession with Lush front-woman Miki Berenyi, if you've never heard their music, it's eerily beautiful.

Music Monday: Lykke Li "Get Some" (video)

Today hasn't been the most pleasant day for me, fortunately the gods are trying to ease my pain by providing some new Lykke Li in my inbox. The Swedish songbird has offered us some alternate visuals for her new single, "Get Some," directed by Swedish film director Johan Söderberg who's best known in the West for his work with Madonna.

Enjoy!

Lykke Li will be going on tour starting in LA March 9th 2011, then she heads back to Europe and the UK and does not return to North America until May 15th. She'll be playing in New York May 17, Montreal May 21 and Toronto May 22 (Lykke's only two Canadian dates). I'll be at any one of those shows, LA-NY-MTL-TO! Who knows!? Who cares to join me?

Lanvin for H&M

It's that season once again! When one of our favourite runway designers partners up with H&M to offer the public that may find their designs a bit out of reach a chance to own a piece of their own. In the past we've seen Chanel and Roberto Cavalli, this time around we're offered none other than French label, Lanvin.

You can pick up one of many party dresses, coats, shoes and jewelry November 20th, at select stores... That is, if the collection doesn't sell out before you get there!

Check out what's available on H&M's website below,

I love those sleeves! So dramatic, yet so simple! Also that aubergine one-shoulder dress is great!

I must own you! Looks like I'm going to have to line up early next Saturday! Happy shopping and good luck!

Celebrity Halloween Costumes

I was trying to get this up yesterday, but I was having computer problems, and then I gave up and went to bed! I always love looking at what celebrities dress up as for Halloween, since often they're the people we want to be and end up emulating, it's interesting to see who's in their fantasies, plus they usually spend more money on their costumes than the average person. They also serve as excellent inspiration for the following year, and no one does it better than the Queen of Halloween:

Heidi Klum and her husband Seal have never failed to disappoint on October 31st. Even when Heidi dresses as a cat, it's never simple! I love that a woman who's made her career off her physical aesthetics isn't afraid to shed her beauty for a night of make-believe!

Another couple (are they a couple? Really Sophia? You went from marrying one co-star to dating another?! Crazy! You need to get out more!) who blew me away, One Tree Hill co-stars, Austin Nichols and Sophia Bush as Russell Brand and Katy Perry. Love it!

I just wanted to show off the full length, mostly for a shot of the shoes. I have a weakness for blue shoes, clearly I need to purchase another pair.

Another celebrity emulating couple, managing partner of Founders Fund and co-founder of Napster Sean Parker and his girlfriend Alexandra Lenas stepped out on Halloween as the biggest fame whores I've ever experienced. And this is the only way, I'll ever post something about them.

Oh McCord sisters! I wish I had either of your costumes, there's just something I love about AiW that every year I want to be Alice. This year was no different, but I still managed something cute. AnnaLynne looks wonderful as the White Queen, I love that she copied Anne Hathaway's bold wine lip, and I appreciate that her sister Angel chose a modest Alice costume. I looked at this dress, and it fit horribly, and was quite large, unfortunately I didn't think of belting it.

I have no idea what Samaire Armstrong was going for, but the guy's costume and facial expression behind her is priceless!

Rose McGowan did the Marie Antoinette thing wonderfully, although at the same time, I sort of feel like she would wear this on any given Sunday.

I barely recognize Mischa Barton's little Eskimo (is that a pc term?) warrior girl costume. Another girl who actually covered herself up (Paris Hilton, take note), well done!

Izabello Miko on the other hand, felt no need to cover herself up, and took it one step further and announced her sexual appetite with a classy t-shirt, covered in condoms. I wonder if she's trying to make a statement about the state Halloween has become, full of tits and ass? Or if this is purely ironic and she really is a deranged horny fairy?

I'm surprised I didn't see more Neytiri costumes this year, but Christina Milian pulled the look off for the most part, if it weren't for the ankles and shoes. Wait! Did I seriously just critique a costume? My apologies! I'm taking this far too seriously!

To make up for my previous critiques, I bring you Kim Kardashian and all the Halloween photos she posted of herself on Twitter this past weekend, only one in which she actually wore in public! Here she is as the Queen of Hearts; I like it.

Then she dressed up as her sister Khloe dressing up as a Jaguar/Cheetah?

Then she shared a photo of herself as a sexy pirate, but apparently her sister Kourtney was planning on wearing this costume (why she shared the photo of herself in it first, only sheds a little light on dynamics of their relationship).
And lastly Kim passed on all her above options and brought pal Jonathan Cheban to be the Big Bad Wolf to her Little Red Riding Hood. My my Red what big cleavage you have!
