2009 Academy of Country Music Awards

This was my last week in sin city, and I am now sitting on a Jet plane (a WestJet plane).. unfortunately. I will fully admit this departure was filled with numerous contemplations, tears, and an abundance of emotional stress. Long distance relationships (LDRs) are not easy, especially when you left your comfort blanket (my baby Bear) behind. Anyway, this confession serves as my excuse for neglecting TMP and for being a week behind on covering the half-watched ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards. Clearly I had an idea Id be MIA this week, and attempted to make a country-related post via Taylor Swift gushings, but one dress rarely fills the void of numerous dresses.

Admittedly I did not realize that I was going to be MIA for two weeks and counting! You swear I was a busy girl, which could not be further from the truth, I am in fact, not busy enough. Perhaps that's my downfall.. I have too much time on my hands, thus procrastinate thinking, "I can do it later, since I have all the free time in the world." But later never comes. I'm trying to stop my dwelling habits, so let's move on,

To Jennifer Love Hewitt looking heavenly (the only description ever used for people wearing white) in Robert Rodriguez with her co-working rebound Jamie Kennedy blending in. And although those shoes are kind of ridiculous, he obviously [helped] dress himself. I'm a bit biased though, as this is something I could almost see Mr. Vegas wear to an event (perhaps the BET Awards?). Rebounding onto possible adulterer,

Leann Rimes looking more fashionable than Id expect from her in a geometric LBD and Jimmy Choo gladiator sandals. Clearly having an alleged (publicity stunted) affair with Baywatch Nights Eddie Cibrian worked in her favour. Allow me to get nostalgic over that fabulous ring! It reminds me of this gaudy snake bracelet with chained ring I used to wear when I was younger, that I absolutely adored! Clearly, this is less tacky (by not being tacky at all), and I should own it, even if only as a homage to my 12 year old self.

Martina McBride was lovely (aren't you happy I didn't say "heavenly") in a flowing white Badgley Mischka maxi-dress, embellished with embroidered turquoise beads and jewels on her shoulder. A dress I am quite convinced I should own.

I'm not sure why it shocks me that Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles has such a sleek physique, perhaps because I find her so very "down home cooking" (whatever that description means to you), but upon seeing her in this Gucci dress I kept doing double-takes. It's unexpected to find a body like that beneath such a down-to-earth and friendly persona. Well Done Jennie (yup, I've nicknamed her).

Speaking of friendly persona's, is there a cuter personality that Julianne Hough on Dancing with the Stars? I think not! And her admission that she ripped the back of her beaded Zuhair Murad gown while accepting her award for Top New Artist only added to her charm.

Fellow Zuhair Murad clad Kellie Pickler looks ornate, and would only resemble a mermaid more if her hair was covered in seaweed. With that said, I think she looks good, great even, not many could pull this dress off and more than likely would over-do it with their make-up, another Well Done.

It's no secret I adore Taylor Swift and this photo just adds to it. She looks STUNNING in Angel Sanchez, and her bold lip was a perfect compliment.

Being a Victoria Secret model, I'm sure it's hard finding a dress that looks good on her, but Marisa Miller accomplished that daunting task in Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 corset gown. Now that's talent. On a side note Marisa Miller has often served as my blondespiration, and many pictures of her have accompanied me to my stylist in attempts to capture her perfectly highlighted California girl hair.

Dress Envy: Taylor Swift

In tribute to the Academy of Country Music Awards which is taking place here in Las Vegas tonight, my first installment of Dress Envy features the ever-humble and adorable Taylor Swift. She could almost be a Girl Crush, considering how much I simply adore her, plus she is partly responsible for my new appreciation for country music. I heart her.

This year's ACMAs Album of the Year winner looks amazing at the Australian premiere of 17 Again. I love that T-neckline, I myself could not wear this since I am far too self-conscious about my batwings, then again that is why this constitutes as dress envy.

This isn't actually the best shot of the dress, but I find Taylor's smile rather charming.

Those Fendi shoes are hot and an excellent non-competing compliment to the Rachel Gilbert dress. I definitely have a weakness for metallics, platforms (especially for my petite stature), and a great little white dress, add Taylor Swift and that's four things I tend to favour.

Girl Crush: Olivia Wilde

I recently read that Olivia Wilde believes that audiences dislike her character on House because she had a gay scene. I can't believe that such a thing would actually be considered an issue, but it's quite possible all at the same time. Then again wasn't it a lesbian relationship that offered her a name in season two of The O.C.? If she wasn't approaching her 6th wedding anniversary (PS her husband is an Italian "prince") I'd think Olivia was trying to walk in Ellen's chucks. Either way, I think she's great, and have a total girl crush on her... I have ever since I was introduced to that purple-streaked hair vixen on The O.C. "Uh-huh.. It was fun. Dude.. It was just a kiss.. It is just a kiss, Right Mandy?"

There is nothing about this photo that I do not like; her perfectly arched brows, dark hair, the maroon suede boots, crocheted dress, all of which I would like to own. I suppose I should take this time to define what constitute as a "Girl Crush." In general it's a feeling of awe or admiration for another girl, that is not limited to feelings of lust (but could certainly be included). With the possible desire to not necessarily be 'her,' but to be like 'her,' with a side of idolizing. The following are photos of some of my favoured Olivia Wilde looks:

Looking regal in Reem Acra at the 2008 Emmy Awards.

I have a thing for black and white stripes with a simple, mini, black bottom. Very Parisian inspired.

Reem Acra loves her and vice versa. I've already commented on this look, but it is still worth mentioning a second time, and let's face it- it's a girl crush, clearly I'm going to gush as much as I want.

I love that look, the 60s inspired thick eyeliner, slight pouf and icy-pale lip. If only I could pull off as well as Ms Wilde does. She has some serious angles to her face, eyebrows, cheekbones and jawline, and I've appreciated her rebillious characters (see what I did there?), even as one of the stoner-sluts (with fellow OC alum Autumn Reeser) begging to hang with the creeptastic porn-directing Timothy Olyphant in The Girl Next Door, if that doesn't scream Girl Crush, I don't know what does.

You can watch an interview of Olivia Wilde by her husband Tao Ruspoli, here.

Failing Immune System...Again

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with me?!?! I am sick AGAIN! And the worst part of all this, besides the vomiting, fever, lack of appetite and strength, missing out on my last day as a gym member, and that my boyfriend refuses to get close to me, is that I am in LAS VEGAS! Who wants to be sick in Vegas? Not I!

I've spent the entire day in bed, yesterday the same, there was a bit of enjoyment early Tuesday when I got to lay out in the sun, but as the day progressed so did my crap-ass feeling. I originally suspected that I was suffering from dehydration, although odd for a girl who downs a gallon of water a day. Then the fever, chills and inability to keep my food down came along. Unpleasant.

I really do not understand how someone who tries to eat healthy, workout and take care of themselves, along with washing their hands before touching their food or face can be this ill. I never used to get sick, there was a time when I was healthy as a whip (whatever that may mean), and now...

*I passed out and was unable to finish that last thought. I will note that my Sparkpeople.com Fitness report for last week, and the week prior to the last time I was sick, both stated:
You've gone over your weekly calories burned goal by a significant amount. Your calories eaten goal will not adjust automatically. If you have increased the amount of exercise you are doing, you should update your fitness settings here to make sure you are consuming enough calories to support the additional activity.
But I was eating a lot more than my calories goal, I was well over the recommended 1280-1630.. Hey! That used to be 1530.. interesting. Anyway, I wonder if this similarity has anything to do with why I fell ill.

Spine to Spine: Secrets de Guerre; My Custom Van

After years of searching out here in Vegas, I finally found and read a french book! Granted it took coming back to Canada and one of my sis' fellow immersion friends giving one to me to make it happen, but it still counts. I haven't used my french in a long time, and I really was fearful of "losing it" or merely having my language skills slip, so reading Jean-Michel Lienhardt's Secrets de Guerre was exactly what I needed. The novels difficulty level isn't high (intermediate), thus less daunting than Voltaire, but there were still words I didn't completely understand. Fortunately, I was immersed in French at a young age, so I still managed to comprehend the ideas and storyline written, and although the "stupid french book made me cry" due to its tragic denouement, I enjoyed it.

Since I had already read a good chunk of it before I left Vegas mid-October, I was able to include another book into March's Spine to Spine, the wickedly inventive Michael Ian Black and his collection of short stories, My Custom Van: And 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays that Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face. The man responsible for teaming up with Simon Pegg for Run Fatboy Run, penned some of the most absurdly hilarious essays I have ever read; contemplating the effect of vampires on the economy; letters to the first girl he ever fingered and to a squirrel he resented for its cuteness; play-by-play tips on how to approach every man's taboo desire: anal. He just might be the king of randomness. How radical is that? A million radical!
